Its height can be up to 18 m. Its leaves are similar to the leaves of tamarind tree. Its bark is smooth. Its fruit is round in shape and has lobes. Medicinal benefits and uses of Amla (Amla ke fayde or upyog)
For hair (Amla for hair)
- To blacken the prematurely grey hair, soak Amla, Baheda, Mango kernels and iron ash in an iron pan overnight and apply this on hair daily, this will convert the white hair into black hair.
- By making a decoction of Amla, Retha and Shikakai and washing the hair with it, the hair becomes soft, long, thick and black.
- To strengthen the hair roots, grind gooseberry and mango seed together and apply it on the head.
- By grinding iron ash and amla powder with hibiscus flowers and making a paste out of it and applying it on head before bathing every day and keeping it for some time, a person's hair does not turn grey.
Use of Amla for eyes

- By consuming Amlaki, diseases like itching in the eyes, redness in the eyes, low vision, colorless vision, cataract etc. can be cured.
- Applying the paste made from Indian gooseberry, rasanjan, honey and ghee to the eyes like kajal provides relief in eye diseases.
- If one or two drops of Amla juice are put in the eyes, then eye diseases and the pain caused by them can be avoided.
- If the seeds of Indian gooseberry are ground and used as kajal in the eyes, then eye diseases get cured.
In hemoptysis (Amla for blood bile)
- To get rid of hematemesis, grind blackberries, mangoes and amla finely and apply the paste on the forehead.
