Turmeric is used as a spice in any vegetable. But do you know that turmeric has many benefits, knowing which you will be surprised?
Yes, according to Ayurveda, turmeric is used to cure diseases. Generally, when we get injured, our elders tell us to apply turmeric on that place or drink turmeric milk. This is said because turmeric contains many such nutrients and properties that are capable of healing that injury quickly. Similarly, today we will also talk about all those properties of turmeric which only a few people know about. After knowing these properties, you will definitely start consuming turmeric.
Morphology of Turmeric
Turmeric plants can grow up to 90 cm in height. Its leaves are like bamboo leaves which are pointed from the front and can grow up to one and a half meters long. Its flowers are red and yellow in color. When the rhizome produced from it is boiled and dried, it is called turmeric. The same turmeric is used as a spice. Its fruits and flowers come between January and April.

- Curcuma aromatica- wild turmeric
- Curcuma amada
- Curcuma caesia- black turmeric

Medicinal Benefits and Uses of Turmeric
Consumption of turmeric is beneficial for skin diseases (Turmeric for skin disease)
- If you are suffering from leprosy then you should consume turmeric powder along with cow urine, it provides relief in leprosy.
- If you have an injury or sprain, then you should mix turmeric, lime and mustard oil and apply it on the affected area. This gives relief in injury and sprain and also reduces the swelling.
- If your body itches, then you should mix turmeric and neem powder with curd and apply it on the itchy area. This will cure the itching.
- If the skin related disorder is erysipelas then you should take equal amount of turmeric and bhringraj root and grind them with cold water and apply it, this will give relief in your erysipelas.
- In case of measles, drinking equal quantity of turmeric and tamarind leaves ground with cold water is beneficial. Similarly, if there is a doubt that measles is about to occur, this remedy can be adopted in such cases also.
- Turmeric has been found to be very useful in treating inflammation. If turmeric and aloe vera are applied properly on the inflammation, then the inflammation can be reduced very quickly. Along with this, acne can also be cured with this remedy.
Turmeric for gout
- Drinking a decoction of turmeric, dhatri and nagarmotha by adding a spoon of honey in it provides relief in arthritis caused by phlegm.
Turmeric for cold and cough
- To cure cough, prepare powder of roasted turmeric and mix it with honey or ghee and consume it. It will cure cough.
- If turmeric smoke is inhaled at night, it provides relief from cold. After this, one should not drink water for some time.
Turmeric for throat
- If the powder made from celery, turmeric, amla, yavakshar and chitrak is taken with one spoon of honey, then it relieves the sore throat and gives relief to the throat.
Turmeric for stomach pain
- In case of stomach ache, boil turmeric in water, add jaggery to it and drink it, it helps in relieving the stomach ache.
Turmeric for hairs
- If your hair falls out in large amounts or you have dandruff problem, then you should massage a paste made of turmeric, barberry, bhunimb, amla, harad, baheda, neem and sandalwood on your head daily. This gives relief from hair related problems.
Turmeric for gum problem
- Mix mustard oil with turmeric and apply it on the gums and then wash it with lukewarm water. This can cure many diseases related to teeth and gums.
Turmeric is beneficial in the problem of leucorrhoea
- The problem of leucorrhoea can be cured by consuming milk mixed with turmeric powder and jaggery.
Turmeric for diabetes
- If the patient of diabetes takes turmeric powder mixed with amla juice and honey twice a day, then it is beneficial in diabetes.|
Increases immunity (Turmeric for increase immunity)
- Antioxidant and antibacterial properties are found in Haridra which work to increase the ability to fight diseases. Due to Corona, the consumption of Haridra has increased, which will also increase our immunity. If you consume turmeric with milk before sleeping at night, it will increase your immunity.

- The problem of stomach worms can be seen mostly in small children. In such a case, you can consume turmeric vegetable or turmeric powder. It helps in killing the worms present in your stomach.
Turmeric for cancer
- Turmeric has anti-cancer properties. Due to which cancer can be prevented. Turmeric is not a cure for any type of cancer but it is considered a simple remedy to prevent cancer.
Turmeric for diabetes
- Turmeric has many properties that can control the level of sugar present in the blood. This is why Haridra is considered a good source for diabetic patients. If you are also suffering from diabetes, then you can consume Haridra without any hesitation.
