Kanchanar What is it? (What is Kanchnar?)
It is a very beautiful flowering herb. It is known by many names but its common and most popular name is Kanchnar. It is found all over India. Its main function is to eliminate lumps. Mainly the lumps in the throat.
Apart from this it has several other benefits like for leprosy, digestion, hematemesis, cough, obesity etc. It cures a disease called Gandmala and this is why it is also known by the name Gandari. It is known by various names like Chamar due to its flowers resembling Chamar, Chamarik due to its painted flowers and Karbudaar due to its torn leaves.

Species of Kanchnar
On the basis of flowers, it is mainly of three types-
- White Kanchnar (most commonly used)
- Yellow Kanchanar
- Red Kanchnar
Morphology of Kanchnar
Its tree is of medium size. The bark is grey in colour. The leaves are divided into two segments. They are heart-shaped and somewhat broad. The leaf stem is hairy. The flowers are large and may be of white, purple or red colour. The inner petals of the flowers are yellow in colour. Its pods are smooth, long, flat and slightly curved which may contain about 10 to 15 seeds. Flowers appear between February and March and fruits appear between April and May.
