What is Velvet Leaf?

Patha is a plant that grows easily on the sides of roads and around bushes. It does not need to be cultivated. It grows on its own. Most people just recognize it, but do not know about it. Those who know about it, definitely consume it. It has so many medicinal properties that you will be surprised to know about them. In India, it is found at an altitude of upto 2000 meters. It is described in detail in the texts of Ayurveda. Come, today let us introduce you to all those advantages of this medicine, after knowing which you too will be able to take benefits from it.

Morphology of Velvet Leaf

It is a creeper that climbs up the trees or spreads on the ground. Its stem is thin. The shape of the leaves is somewhat similar to that of giloy. On crushing the leaves, some smoothness is felt. Its flowers are greenish yellow in colour and are unisexual. Its fruits are like peas. When it is raw then it appears reddish orange and after ripening it becomes yellowish green in colour. Thus by looking at the fruits only we can find out about their state. The seeds are hemispherical. The colour of its root is light brown which extends deep inside. Its flowers appear from June to November and fruits from October to December.

Benefits of Velvet Leaf

Beneficial text for a smooth delivery

  • During delivery, if a paste made from the root of the medicine is applied to the vagina, it helps in easing the delivery.
  • Apart from this, grinding the medicinal leaves and taking them with milk also helps in easy delivery.

increase the breast milk

  • Chronic lactation problems can also be cured by consuming about 30 ml of decoction made from milk purifying medicines like Patha, dry ginger etc.

Velvet Leaf for diarrhea

  • If curd and pomegranate juice is added to the Patha vegetable prepared with ghee and consumed, it can help in curing diarrhoea.
  • If the paste made from medicinal leaves is added to the buttermilk made from buffalo milk and consumed, it also provides relief from diarrhoea.
  • You can get rid of all types of diarrhoea by consuming pills made from paste of Daruhaldi, Patha, Ankol, Mulethi etc.
  • All types of diarrhoea can be stopped by mixing Patha, Atis, Kutaj, Nagarmotha, Kutki, Dhataki flowers, Bilva powder etc. and taking it with rice water.

Velvet Leaf for menstrual problems

  • If the decoction made from Kutaj bark, Patha and Trikatu is taken in appropriate quantity, then many types of disorders related to menstruation can be cured.

Velvet Leaf for skin diseases

  • Many times it becomes difficult to cover wounds. If they are covered with a cloth or any other object, it can increase the risk of infection. In such a case, if the wound is covered with leaves of this medicine, it does not cause infection in the wound and the wound can also be covered.
  • In case of ringworm, if the powder of the root of the medicine is mixed with honey and applied, it provides relief from ringworm.
  • If the powder of the root of this medicine is mixed with rice water and applied, then leprosy can be cured.

Velvet Leaf for cold

  • In case of cold, if one or two drops of Pathadi oil are put in the nose, it provides relief from the cold.

Velvet Leaf for spleen disease

  • Spleen related diseases can be cured by drinking the paste of the medicinal root mixed with rice water.

Velvet Leaf for liver

  • Consumption of this medicine is also considered very beneficial for the liver. It works to increase the capacity of the liver. If our liver works properly then the risk of most digestive or other diseases will automatically start reducing.

Velvet Leaf for piles

  • Taking the pulp of wood apple fruit and the Patha with buttermilk mixed with salt is beneficial in piles. If you are also suffering from the problem of piles, then you can adopt this remedy.
  • Apart from this, you can also get relief from piles by taking buttermilk mixed with pomegranate juice, carom seeds, cumin seeds, jaggery, dry ginger and Patha powder.

  • If the leaves of this medicine are applied on a broken bone, the bone joins back properly.

Velvet Leaf for swelling

  • Swelling can be relieved by making a drink of panchkol and patha and eating it after frying it in ghee or oil.
  • Relief from swelling can also be obtained by applying paste made from substances like Patha etc. on the swollen area.

  • This is a severe pain affecting one part of the head. This pain can be relieved by making a powder of this medicine and taking it through nasal method.

Velvet Leaf for mouth problems

  • Mix honey in the powder made from Patha, Tejovati, Rasanjan and Yavakshar and make pills. By sucking these pills twice a day, oral diseases can be cured.

in gonorrhoea

  • Consuming the powder of Patha, Kutaj, Asafoetida, Kutki etc. mixed in the decoction made from Amrita and Chitrak is beneficial in treating gonorrhea.
  • Taking decoction made from substances like Patha, turmeric, Agaru etc. also provides relief in diabetes.

Velvet Leaf for fever

  • Consuming decoction of Sugandbala, Patha and Khas provides relief from fever.
  • By cooking the medicinal root in milk and consuming the milk for three days, one can get relief from fever caused by cold.
