What is Vidhara? (What is Vidhara)

External form (Morphology)

It is a vine found on the banks of rivers and in forests. Vidhara has two varieties named Vriddhadarak and Jeernadaru. It is called Vriddhadarak because it destroys old age. It is called Vriddha because its vine remains everlasting for a long time. Since the shape of its vine is crooked like the intestine of a goat, it is called Ajantri or Chhagalantrika. The vine of Vidhara is very long. Therefore, it is also called Dirghavallari. Two species of Vidhara are used in medicine.

Vidhara (Argyreia nervosa (Burm.f) Boj. ,

It is a branched creeper which spreads on the ground and climbs on big trees. Its flowers are long and pinkish purple in colour, have white hairs on the outside and are pink and purple in colour on the inside. Its fruits are round in shape, green in the unripe state and brown and yellow when ripe. Its flowering and fruiting period is from July to February.

Wild Vidhara (Argyreia imbricate (Roth.) & Patel)

 It is a long, bushy and climbing vine. Its leaves are oval and heart shaped. Its flowers are pink and fruits are red in colour. It is used in place of Vidhara in many places.

It also helps in gonorrhoea.
