What is Beetroot?

One such tap rooted plant is beetroot. You will be surprised to know about it. Beetroot is used in every part of India. It is also cultivated in every part of the country. It is used for making vegetables, salads and juices. Along with this, it has many medicinal properties too.

 It is very beneficial for the body. Consuming beetroot fulfills the deficiency of blood in the body and reduces the risk of cancer. It is also good for eyesight and is very useful for reducing body fat. 

 If you eat beetroot in any form, you get benefits from all sides. Beetroot is grown the most in India and it is found in almost all seasons but is found more in winters. Beetroot is small in appearance but it has many benefits.

Beetroot is a 30-90 cm tall, fleshy, tuberous, thick stemmed herbaceous plant. Its leaves are like the leaves of radish or turnip. Beetroot flowers are in clusters of 2-3 or single, long cylindrical. Its root is purple red in colour from inside. Beetroot grows and blooms in the months of September to February.

Beetroot for eye diseases (Beetroot for eyes)

  • Everyone knows how much pain is caused when the eyes turn red. Then applying the juice of the beetroot on the temples provides relief from conjunctivitis or pain caused by redness of the eyes or eye infection. 

in oral disease (Beetroot for mouth)

  •  Mouth ulcers or toothache: In case of children or any person having toothache or mouth ulcers, gargling with the decoction of beetroot leaves helps in curing the toothache and mouth ulcers.

In Treatment of Migraine Beetroot

  • Putting 1-2 drops of beetroot root juice in the nose provides relief from migraine pain.

In Baldness Beetroot

  • Applying beet leaf juice on the head continuously for a few days helps in getting rid of baldness or mixing turmeric in beet leaf juice and applying it on the head is also beneficial.

  • There are no side effects of consuming beetroot in appropriate quantity, but consuming it in excess quantity causes deficiency of calcium in the blood and causes kidney disorder and also leads to constipation and diabetes.
  • Consuming it in excess causes stomach cramps.
