What is Shati?
You must be knowing about Kapoor Kachri or Shati, it is a medicine which is used to cure diseases of the head. This is not an ordinary medicine but a panacea for diseases of the head and hair. There are many such medicines in Ayurveda which are used for the treatment of diseases.
Due to the fragrance in its roots, it is also known as Moolika. Among these, Kapoor Kachri is used as a panacea for all diseases. It has many medicinal properties, which are very beneficial in curing diseases like diarrhoea, piles, cough, fever, T.B. and tumour etc.

External form (Morphology) (Shati ki akriti)
In Sushruta Samhita, the use of Shatika Kwatha and Brihatyadi Kwatha Yoga is found for fever, tumour, asthma and cough. There are two species of this which are used in treatment. The first species is known as Shati and the second species is known as Sulochana or Gulbakabali. Gulbakabali is especially used for eye disorders.
Hedychium spicatum Ham. Ex Smith (Shatti)
It is a plant that lives for many years and is up to 1 meter tall. Its rhizomes are long and rough on the outside and are reddish brown in colour. Its leaves are broad like turmeric leaves and are oblong and spear-shaped. Its flowers are white in colour. Its fruits have smooth spherical seeds. Its flowering and fruiting period is from August to December.
Hedychium coronarium J. Konig (Sulochana Netriya)
It is a rhizomatous herbaceous plant up to 1 meter in height. Its leaves are spear-shaped, pointed and smooth. Its flowers are white in colour. Fruits are spherical and smooth. Its extract is widely used in the treatment of eye diseases.

Medicinal benefits and uses of Shati (Shati its benefits and uses)
For respiratory diseases (Shati for asthma)
- If you are suffering from any respiratory disease then taking the fine powder of Shati and Pushkarmool mixed with honey helps in relieving hiccups and respiratory problems.
- Apart from this, consuming Shatyadi powder with sugar provides relief from hiccups and breathing problems.
Eliminate bad breath (Shati for bad breath)
- If you have bad breath due to indigestion then gargling with decoction of Shati helps in getting rid of bad breath.

- If you are suffering from cold frequently due to weather changes then prepare a powder by mixing equal parts of ground amla and trikatu in kapurkachri and keep it. Later on, consume the powder by mixing jaggery and ghee in it to get relief from cold.
1. Relieves Inflammation (Shati for swelling)
- If there is swelling on any part of your body, then use Kapoor Kachri powder. Its use is very beneficial for you. Applying this powder on the swollen area reduces the swelling.

- If you are suffering from indigestion due to digestive problems then consuming Shati powder with water provides relief from indigestion.

- Vomiting often occurs due to illness or eating impure food. To get rid of this, prepare a powder by mixing equal parts of Daruhaldi, Haritaki, Dry ginger and Pippali in Kapurkachari. Mix this powder in ghee and consume it. Then drink some buttermilk. It is beneficial in vomiting.
