What is Isabgol? (Isabgol kya hai?)

Today we will talk about a medicine whose name you might have heard. Isabgol is an ayurvedic medicine which is consumed in different ways for many diseases of the body.

It is also known by other names like Ishadgol due to its ovoid shape, Ashwakarna seed due to its seeds being like horse's ears, Sheetal seed due to its seeds being cool etc. Nowadays every person is suffering from some disease or the other from head to toe. It is used very easily in almost all these diseases.

It was mainly found in Iran and was imported from there but at present it is cultivated in the Indian states of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab etc. and along with this, the largest production of Isabgol in the world is done in India. Today we will discuss how it should be used in which diseases.

It is a small plant and its leaves are shaped like paddy leaves. Its flowers are oval or cylindrical in shape and its fruits are also oval. Its seeds are horse ear shaped and smooth and yellowish brown in colour. The husk present on the seeds is also very useful. Its flowers and fruits come between December and March.

It is an erect and herbaceous plant. Its leaves are simple and alternate in shape. Its flowers can be separate or in clusters. Its fruits are oval in shape and its seeds are very small. Its fruits and flowers appear between April and October.
