What is rice? (Chaval kya hai?)
Do you know that rice, which is eaten with great fondness, has so many benefits? It is called the king of the poor because rice can be eaten in any form. It is easily available in the kitchen of every house. Parathas are also made from rice flour. Rice is not only tasty but it also has many medicinal properties.
Do you know that it is a storehouse of medicinal properties. It contains various types of vitamins. Rice is a source of quick energy for the body. It has the ability to slow down the ageing process. Diseases like vomiting, piles, jaundice, diarrhoea etc. are treated with the use of rice.
Some people call it a light meal while some consider it a source of obesity. Shahi Tandul increases vata and kapha while Lal Shahi Tandul calms down vata, pitta and kapha.
External appearance (morphology) (Cultivation of rice)
Rice is a type of cereal. It is a small, straight, grassy plant. Its stem is 60-120 cm long, fibrous root, leafy, round and yellow in colour. Its leaves are straight, 30-60 cm long and 6-8 mm wide or very flat, lined and rough.
Its flowers are 8-12 mm long in bunches. Its ear is 7.5-12.5 cm long, single or in bunches of 2-7, usually bent downwards, green and bright golden yellow when ripe. The grass-like green or ripe grey coloured fruit is called paddy. Rice is extracted from this paddy. Its grains are white in colour, which are called rice. In most of the places in India, paddy crop is taken once a year and in some places two or three times a year.

Medicinal benefits and uses of rice (Benefits and uses of rice)
Provide energy to the body
- Eating rice or rice flour provides energy to your body. It contains a good amount of carbohydrates which provide daily energy to your body. If you also start feeling tired after doing a little work, then you can use rice flour for energy.
Rice in blood pressure (Chawal for blood pressure)
- Consuming rice bran can be beneficial for people with blood pressure problems. You get quick relief from its consumption.
In skin disease (Chawal for skin)
- Applying paste of Shali Tandul on burnt area helps in reducing pain.
- Grinding Shali Tandul and applying it provides relief in boils, pimples, hair follicles, swelling and cracked heels.
- Soaking white paddy in water and washing the face with that water removes freckles.
Diarrhoea (Chawal for diarrhea)
- Roast the sugar made from sugarcane in ghee and grind it. Mix powdered lava, sugar candy and honey in it and consume it. It helps in preventing diarrhea caused by blood and stomach heat.
- Cooking rice and consuming it with buttermilk helps in relieving excessive thirst, nausea and diarrhoea in summer.
- If you have diarrhea then you should consume Tandul, its consumption will relieve your diarrhea very quickly.
For use in lactating women
- Make a thin pudding by cooking fine pieces of Shali Tandul with milk. Eating this pudding increases the milk supply of lactating women.
In Vomiting (Chawal for vomiting)
- If you are vomiting due to eating food that is not favorable to you then consuming Sattu made from rice flour mixed with honey will stop vomiting.
Rice can solve the problem of lack of appetite
- Make a powder by taking equal quantity of Tandul lava, Kapitha, Madhu and Pipali root. Mixing honey in this powder and consuming it cures all types of vomiting and loss of appetite.

- This problem is most common in children. Adults can also have intestinal worms. Roast rice and soak it in water overnight. Drinking filtered rice water in the morning kills all types of intestinal worms.
In Piles (Chaval for piles)
- If you have a problem of piles, then use rice grains as much as possible. Consuming shali and saathi rice grains is beneficial in bleeding piles.

In Jaundice (Chawal for jaundice)
- Jaundice is caused due to liver related problems or due to lack of blood in your body. Eat Shali rice in your daily meals. This cures liver related problems and cures jaundice.

- Tandul is very beneficial in problems like burning sensation during urination and pain during urination. Take shatavar, kash, kush, gokhru, vidarikand, shahi tandul sugarcane and kaseru in equal quantity. Soak it in water overnight. Mix 20-40 ml of this water with ice, honey and sugar and consume it. It provides relief in problems in urination due to bile.

- If there is excessive bleeding during menstruation, then try this remedy. Grind red rice soaked in milk every day. Mixing honey in it and consuming it provides quick relief from severe menstrual bleeding.

- Bone fracture – By tying grass on the broken bone and applying a paste made from Shali Tandul flour and Shatadhaut ghee, the broken bone gets joined.

- People stop eating rice as soon as they get fever, but if we use Shali rice then it is also beneficial in removing fever.
- Make a drink of red rice with the decoction of gokshura and small kateeri and consume it. It provides relief in pain in the ribs caused due to fever, pain in the lower part of the stomach and headache etc.

- Use of rice water is beneficial in removing hair related problems, because due to the properties of rice, rice water strengthens the roots of hair.
For the problem of dysentery Rice
- If you are suffering from dysentery, then consuming rice can be beneficial for you. Due to its light properties, it controls the stool tendency in dysentery and also, being light, it gets digested quickly.

- If you have digestive problems then using rice can be beneficial for you as rice is light to digest and can benefit you by digesting quickly even if the digestive fire is weak.

- Use of Shali Tandul and Sathi rice in food is beneficial for patients of hematemesis.
- Make a drink of red shali-tandul with the decoction of gokshura and small kateeri and consume it. It provides relief in pain in the ribs due to fever, pain in the lower part of the stomach and headache etc.
- A patient suffering from burning sensation, vomiting and excessive thirst gets relief by consuming Tandul Sattu mixed with sugar and honey.
- Consuming porridge and rice etc. prepared from old Shali Tandul and Sathi Tandul is beneficial in fever.
